Understand your skin barrier before anything else.
The skin barrier is the foundation of every skin issue. Dryness, acne, oiliness, sensitivity, and pigmentation all sit on top of how well your barrier is functioning. Before any Skin Map can give precise guidance, SkinCompass needs to understand your barrier health first.
This assessment uses a structured, science-based estimation model built on validated behavioral, environmental, and symptom signals from dermatology research. It is not a clinical TEWL measurement, but it is one of the most rigorous at-home barrier evaluations available.
Symptoms, behavior, environment, recovery
Four scientifically grounded sections covering everything that shapes barrier function.
Personalized Barrier Score
A weighted score across all four sections with category, contributors, and benchmark comparison.

Honest about what this is, and what it isn't.
This Barrier Assessment is a behavioral and symptom-based estimation model. It does not measure TEWL, Stratum Corneum Hydration, or Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy directly because those require in-clinic instruments. Instead, it uses validated proxies from published dermatology research to estimate barrier function.
Primary references include Akdeniz et al. on TEWL in healthy and diseased skin (Skin Research and Technology, 2018), Choe et al. on Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (PMC / NIH), Annals of Dermatology's Skin Barrier Function Assessment review (2024), and Proksch, Brandner, and Jensen's work on the skin barrier (Experimental Dermatology).
SkinCompass is not a medical diagnostic tool. If you have concerns about a clinical skin condition, please consult a board-certified dermatologist.
